Kantha is the name for the simple running stitch that is used to quilt our blankets together (the kantha stitch). It can be straight & consistent (like most of our blankets) or more elaborate and artful, with intricate patterns and storytelling (seen more in our special kantha blankets).
“Kantha” also refers to the tradition and style of this handcraft. These are “kantha throws” because they are made with the kantha stitch, but also because they embody the tradition of making something new, beautiful, & useful from something old (repurposed sari cloth).
We have sent tens of thousands of kantha throws to homes across America & around the world. Here are some of the great ways our customers have used their throw blankets:
As a gift:
— wedding gift, or for bridesmaids
— for Mom or Mother in law (who has everything)
— during illness or bereavement as a way to be "wrapped in love"
— big birthdays or retirement gift
— graduation
— housewarming/houseguest
— sobriety gift
— moving/farewell gift
— for long-term (or long-suffering) teachers
In your home:
— on the sofa
— for chilly evenings or mornings on the patio
— in the nursery for late night wake-ups
— kantha as art / wall hanging
— a bed runner or extra bedding layer (perfect in a shared bed if one body sleeps cooler than the other)
— building forts (just us?)
Also:
— air travel blankets (can I take a blanket on a plane?)
— picnic blanket
— towel in a pinch (for those impromptu beach swims)
— for yoga: folded or rolled to brace difficult poses, or laid over the mat for relaxation poses
— sporting events: wrapped or folded as a lap blanket, laid on the grass, or as a cushion for hard benches
Overall, we've seen and heard from customers (and experienced for ourselves) that our classic kantha throws are a multipurpose blanket that can go where you go, or cover from neck-to-toes when you're chilling at home. We love them!
Yes! Our cotton kantha throw blankets are 100% washable.
To extend the life of your one-of-a-kind throw, we recommend a cold, gentle cycle, and hang drying or gentle tumble in a dryer.
Throw blankets are available at every price point from $10 up. Even kantha throw blankets are available on Amazon, Etsy, or from other retailers for as low as $60. So: are dignify blankets worth the higher price?
Value is relative, and you are the only one who can determine how you feel good about spending your money. We’ve been writing a blog about shopping & value for 10 years about exactly that!
But, here are some reasons why thousands of customers have felt great about their $100+ blanket purchase:
— excellent quality of kantha throw: perfect stitching standards; tidy, finished edges; and quality-controlled cloth
