We are proud of our kantha quilted blankets for being the BEST quality of kantha on the market, made in exceptional working conditions.
Our kantha throws, spreads, & mini quilts are made with the highest standards of quality: the cloth is thick & supple, the hand-stitching is straight & consistent, the edges are finished & clean. In addition, the care & dignity paid to the artisan women is unmatched, exceeding fair trade standards.
Kantha (meaning: “patched cloth”) refers to both the tradition of producing these unique, quilted items (the act of making something useful and beautiful out of discarded items), as well as the craft & stitch itself (a small, straight running stitch in Bengali embroidery).
After providing several thousand homes with our throw quilts & bedspreads, we have been delighted to hear of the multitude of ways they have been put to good use.
Many are purchased to give as meaningful gifts: gifts for the mom who has everything; bridesmaid gifts or wedding gifts for the bride & groom themselves; graduation gifts or to outfit a college dorm... Women have purchased them as best friend gifts or for a 60th birthday present; one clinic gives them to their retiring nurses, while other gifts really connect the story of suffering & redemption with friends in difficult circumstances: a gift for a friend in bereavement, a celebration of sobriety, or a gift for a loved one with cancer.
Beyond gifts, kantha blankets have journeyed on airplanes & road trips, they've popped up in yoga studios and backyard patios and on the sidelines watching sports. Our kantha quilts outfit couches & beds, tabletops & recliners, and rocking chairs of new moms. They are versatile, beautiful, colorful, thoroughly loved by our customers.
We've seen many vintage kantha quilts & other "indian sari" quilts available. We're confident: dignify's are the best.
For one: nobody wants poor quality. The labor that is involved in hand-stitching a kantha throw means that for the best profit, something has been sacrificed: either the quality of the stitch (less dense, sloppier, incomplete edges), the quality of the sari cloth (less attractive patterns, fewer layers, thinner quilt), or the treatment of the seamstresses (low pay, no or fewer benefits, longer hours, no childcare). Unfortunately, we have seen these poor quality products at both the lowest & highest price points of kantha quilts.
We sacrifice nothing, choosing only the best sari cloth, matching them in thoughtful designs, executing the stitch with excellence, and treating our artisan workers with the utmost of dignity, respect, and sustainable wages & benefits. There is simply no better place to purchase a kantha quilt.
