For the very first A Considered Home, I knew I wanted to start with my friend Erin.
I’ve dreamed of doing a series like this since taking the reins at dignify. For more than 13 years, these blankets have made their way into the homes of some pretty wonderful people all over the world. I’ve wanted to find a creative way to connect us, to peek into one another’s lives, share what makes our homes ours, and hopefully inspire each other along the way.
Erin lives in San Diego with her husband, two kids, and three chickens. Her mornings begin before the sun, her front yard holds a Little Free Library, and her dignify blankets have found their place in one of her family's everyday rhythms: curled up on the couch during morning read-alouds.
Her home is colorful, collected, and intentionally lived in. A safe space where relationships can bloom and beautiful things aren't too precious to be used. We asked Erin about what earns a place in her home, the rhythms that shape her days, and what she's loving lately.
What does the first hour of your day look like, and what’s in your mug?
I’m up before the sun, walking around my neighborhood with either Scripture, guided prayer, or an audiobook in my ears. My cup is filled with chai or Earl Grey.
Do you remember the first time you saw kantha up close? What drew you in?
The first time I saw kantha, the individual stitches captured my attention. I noticed how evenly spaced and consistent they were and imagined the hours it took to create such a beautiful piece.

Which dignify piece do you have, and how do you use it day to day?
Erin: I have two Classic kantha blankets that my kids use when I read aloud in the morning during our school time. They love to lounge on the couch wrapped in them. And I've bought countless others for friends as gifts.

How do you decide what earns a place in your home?
I consider beauty and purpose when I decide to bring an item into my home. Our space is limited, and it's important to us that there's plenty of room to breathe, so I’m careful not to clutter our home with objects that don’t add real value.
Your blanket carries the name of the woman who stitched it. What does it mean to you to know her name?
It reminds me that the choices I make in my corner of the world have the potential to impact a person across the globe. dignify's blankets give us an opportunity to participate in meaningful work happening many miles away.
What’s something you care about, near or far, and one small way you show up for it?
Being rooted where I live and connected to the people around me is something I really care about. A small way I deepened my neighborhood roots was to put up a Little Free Library in my front yard. This has led to meeting new people, frequent stop-bys, and gathering around a shared table for meals.

What’s bringing you joy lately?
Listening to the birds in my yard amidst the din of the city is a small daily joy.
And I’m currently listening to Galahad and the Grail by Malcolm Guite.
